Set Up the 注音 Keyboard
The Bopomofo Trainer in TingWo asks you to type each prompt on your phone's 注音 (Zhuyin / Bopomofo) keyboard. If you have not added that keyboard yet, here is how to turn it on. It takes about a minute.
iPhone and iPad
- 1. Open the Settings app.
- 2. Tap General, then Keyboard, then Keyboards.
- 3. Tap Add New Keyboard.
- 4. Under Chinese, Traditional, choose 注音 (Zhuyin), then tap Done.
- 5. In any text field, press and hold the globe key, then pick the 注音 keyboard.
Android
- 1. Open the Settings app.
- 2. Go to System, then Languages and input, then On-screen keyboard.
- 3. Open your keyboard (for example Gboard), tap Languages, then Add keyboard.
- 4. Search for Chinese (Traditional) and choose the Zhuyin layout, then tap Done.
- 5. In any text field, tap the globe or language key to switch to the 注音 keyboard.
Menu names vary a little by phone model and keyboard app. If you use a different keyboard such as SwiftKey, look for its language or layout settings and add Chinese (Traditional) Zhuyin there.
Typing in TingWo
- Type each prompt with your 注音 keyboard. As you enter the bopomofo, the keyboard turns it into Chinese characters, which is what TingWo checks.
- Stuck on a character? Tap it once to peek at the pinyin, tap again to see the bopomofo. The voice button reads the prompt aloud.
